Boxing weekend: Benefiting Golden Glove Charities
Since 1923, Golden Gloves of America, Inc. has provided a safe environment that promotes physical fitness and emotional well-being for the social development of young athletes nationally. Through the boxing program at Golden Gloves, underprivileged kids learn the importance of strong work ethic and self-discipline.
The Knoxville Golden Gloves Chapter has continued this long-standing tradition of helping underprivileged kids starting with the efforts of Ace Miller. The proceeds from Boxing Weekend go directly towards funding Golden Gloves’ mission to provide the materials and other various expenses needed for each athlete to compete nationally. The majority of the boxers who train at Golden Gloves reside in poor living conditions and can’t afford these expenses. The money raised will directly cover costs for participants to register with the United States Boxing Association, which is required for every fighter in the nation.
We inspire life through boxing. Our charity provides a safe environment for learning and an escape from rough living conditions for those children and youth who face unforeseen daily challenges.
Through our charity and through boxing, children and youth are able to acquire important life skills such as work ethic, discipline, leadership and social skills that will enable them to make a difference.
It takes hard work to become a champion - a legacy that will forever be engraved in their hearts.
Since the Knoxville Golden Gloves Gym opening in 1964, around 20,000 kids have come through the gym to enhance their physical and emotional well-being and social development.
30 franchises nationwide providing hundreds of dedicated administrators, coaches, trainers & counselors have spent countless hours and effort to assist young people in the development of personal character and athletic skills.
There have been 28 Golden Gloves National Champions that have trained and fought in the local Knoxville Golden Gloves Gym. Champions include the only five-time Heavyweight Champion of the World, Evander Holyfield and current Heavyweight Champion of the World, Deontay Wilder.
In its first year, The Ace Miller Memorial Scholarship fund has provided students with the opportunity to pursue a college education and open new doors that weren’t possible.
Numerous organizations have benefited from the Boxing Weekend funds raised including other boxing gyms, scholarship funds, and local Knoxville High Schools.
